What’s new in SpendLess.

SpendLess 1.4.1 improves macOS installation, updates security-sensitive dependencies, and reduces background update checks on Windows.

Signed macOS application

• The universal Intel / Apple Silicon app is now signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
• Includes the notarization ticket for macOS verification.
• Requires macOS 13 or later. Accessibility permission is still needed for FL Studio window-title detection.

Security and maintenance

• Updated Electron and image-processing dependencies with security fixes.
• Updated validation and build dependencies.

Updates

• Windows now checks for updates at startup and every six hours instead of every minute. Automatic download and the restart prompt remain available.
• On macOS, SpendLess notifies you about an update and opens its DMG download; installation remains manual.
• Windows code signing is not included in this release; Windows may still display an unknown-publisher warning.

SpendLess 1.4.0 introduces project categories, a clearer workspace, and a new way to inspect your projects before opening them in FL Studio.

Project categories

• Organize projects into named categories with their own icons and custom order.
• Create, edit, reorder and delete categories without deleting their projects.
• Assign a category from the project editor or context menu. New projects inherit the active category, and duplicates keep the original assignment.
• Browse categories in the sidebar or switch to horizontal tabs using the layout toggle.
• See everything in All projects, with Unsorted first and the remaining projects grouped in your category order.
• Categories stay local and do not alter your FL Studio files or exported archives.

Project details and navigation

• Click a project to open its details in a side panel, including metadata, plugins and audio preview controls.
• Open the project in FL Studio directly from the panel, or restore direct opening on click in Preferences.
• Added an optional confirmation before launching the DAW, with a Don't show again option.
• Return to Home by clicking the SpendLess logo, with a streamlined sidebar and workspace layout.

Archives and interface

• Replaced archive pagination with progressive scrolling while preserving search and sorting across the full archive list.
• Added right-click actions on archive rows.
• Refined macOS window transparency and fullscreen behavior.
• Added dedicated release pages and share cards to the website changelog.

FL Studio detection

• Replaced the fixed list of FL Studio app names with support for numeric version suffixes, including future versions.
• Keep the configured application name as the first choice and verify the actual macOS executable to avoid matching unrelated processes.

Project templates

• Added a dedicated Templates section in Settings to manage multiple FL Studio templates.
• Import an existing FLP or create a new template, choose its name and icon, and edit it directly in FL Studio.
• Create projects from your templates through the project creation menu, while keeping the built-in Default template available.
• Preserve template source files when creating projects and move deleted templates to the system trash.

Project customization and interface

• Expanded the icon picker to the free Font Awesome catalog, with alphabetical ordering and search.
• Replaced positional icon and color indexes with stable keys while preserving compatibility with existing projects and templates.
• Added an optional icon contrast setting for improved readability on supported background colors.
• Simplified the project context menu and placed editing and duplication before update and folder actions.

Sample safety

• Fixed collisions between different samples sharing the same filename.
• Preserve distinct files with numbered suffixes such as _2 and _3, and update FL Studio references to the correct paths.
• Compare file contents before reusing an existing sample copy and preserve distinct sample paths through project archives.

macOS and desktop reliability

• Fixed transient duplicate SpendLess icons appearing in the macOS Dock during FL Studio window detection.
• Upgraded Electron from 41.2.1 to 44.4.1.
• Hardened universal macOS packaging for native SQLite and Intel/Apple Silicon media dependencies.
• Migrated the build toolchain to Bun and extended regression coverage for project and packaging workflows.

SpendLess 1.3.4 is a safety and stability update focused on preventing unsafe writes to FL Studio 25 and 26 project files.

FLP integrity safeguards

• Added structural checks before SpendLess rewrites project metadata or sample paths.
• Restricted project edits to the expected FL Studio event IDs and preserved every non-target event byte-for-byte.
• Reparsed every generated FLP and required a stable round trip before replacing the project file.
• Blocked unsafe project files before FL Studio launch and displayed a recovery message instead.

Projects already corrupted before this update cannot be repaired automatically. Restore a known-good backup before opening them again.

Safer project persistence

• Replaced FLP files through a temporary file, disk sync, and atomic rename.
• Kept the existing project file intact when parsing, serialization, validation, or writing fails.
• Persisted SpendLess project metadata only after the FLP and associated media operations succeed.
• Added regression coverage for unsafe modern project structures, non-target event mutations, atomic writes, and launch blocking.

• Fixed FL Studio 25 and 26 project streams losing alignment during parsing.
